OSTINÀTI “Stone wall”

“Stone Wall” è il primo live studio album della band siciliana “Ostinàti” pubblicato da Isulafactory e distribuito fisicamente da Lizard Distribution. Un disco in cui i brani sono pensati come un viaggio nella Sicilia sud-orientale e provano a mettere in musica le sensazioni di chi si trova a percorrere i paesaggi di questa pittoresca parte del mondo. La musica degli Ostinàti eredita dal Jazz la considerazione che il tema è un pretesto che porta alla costruzione del brano vero e proprio attraverso le diverse strategie improvvisative, che si muovono libere, all’interno di strutture a volte complesse ma sostenute da un groove ricco e potente. Le 10 tracce contenute nell’album abbracciano stilisticamente un’area che spazia dal Jazz Progressive, passando, ecletticamente, per Fusion, Smooth Jazz con qualche spruzzatina di Rock e Blues

Le composizioni, fatta eccezione per la singolare rivisitazione di “Speak No Evil”, omaggio al grande Wayne Shorter, sono tutte di Sergio Battaglia, ma gli arrangiamenti sono stati costruiti dall’intero gruppo, formato da musicisti eterogenei per età, formazione ed esperienze musicali, che hanno saputo interpretare nel migliore dei modi questo viaggio che, prima di approdare in studio, è stato proposto live in diversi concerti e “Syncro “ ha mantenuto anche in studio il carattere live: un groove avvolgente e coinvolgente che crea la giusta dimensione per accogliere linee melodiche, tematiche ed improvvisative, larghe e ostinate e riesce a creare un sound che riporta immediatamente ad atmosfere familiari a chi è cresciuto fra gli anni ‘ 70 ed ’80 e non solo.

“Syncro” è il primo singolo di “Stone Wall” pubblicato ad aprile su tutte le piattaforme digitali. Per questo brano è stato realizzato anche un un cortometraggio dalla videomaker e fotografa Federica Vero, in cui la regista ha voluto mettere in risalto la dimensione e l’atmosfera “live” della band. Il video è stato girato presso l’ex mattatoio comunale di Modica adesso riconvertito in uno spazio artistico polivalente  chiamato “Mattofficina”.

“Stone Wall” is the first live studio album of the Sicilian band “Ostinàti”, released by Isulafactory and distributed by Lizard Distribution. An album in which the songs are conceived as a journey to south-eastern Sicily and try to set the sensations of those who travel the landscapes of this picturesque part of the world to music. The music of the Ostinàti inherits from Jazz the consideration that the theme is a pretext that leads to the construction of the real piece through the different improvisational strategies, which move freely, within sometimes complex structures but supported by a rich and powerful groove. The 10 tracks contained in the album stylistically embrace an area that ranges from Progressive Jazz, passing, eclectically, to Fusion, Smooth Jazz with some sprinkles of Rock and Blues

The compositions, except for the singular reinterpretation of “Speak No Evil”, a tribute to the great Wayne Shorter, are all by Sergio Battaglia, but the arrangements were built by the entire group, made up of musicians of heterogeneous age, training and musical experience , who have been able to interpret in the best way this journey which, before arriving in the studio, was proposed live in several concerts and “Syncro” has also maintained the live character in the studio: an enveloping and engaging groove that creates the right dimension for welcoming melodic, thematic and improvisational lines, wide and obstinate and manages to create a sound that immediately brings back to familiar atmospheres to those who grew up between the 70s and 80s and beyond.

“Syncro” is the first single of “Stone Wall” released in April on all digital platforms. For this song a short film was also made by the videomaker and photographer Federica Vero, in which the director wanted to highlight the dimension and the “live” atmosphere of the band. The video was shot at the former municipal slaughterhouse of Modica now converted into a multipurpose artistic space called “Mattofficina”.

BIOGRAFIA

Gli Ostinàti sono un quintetto Ibleo che nasce dalla collaborazione fra musicisti di diversa estrazione musicale, ma che confluisco insieme verso la musica jazz. Nascono come esecutori di tribute track dedicate ai maestri del jazz statunitense del periodo funk/rock fusion come Miles Davis,Chick Corea,Marcus Miller, Mike Stern, Wayne Shorter ed altri.

Con la voglia e l’ostinazione di fare un passo avanti, nel 2019, la band ha intrapreso un cambio di rotta verso la musica originale, con composizioni del sassofonista Sergio Battaglia di cui gli  arrangiamenti, sono stati curati insieme al resto della band.

I brani sono omaggi alla Sicilia, che descrivono in musica i pittoreschi paesaggi di questo territorio.

La musica degli Ostinati, diventa un pretesto per condividere diverse strategie improvvisative, che si muovono libere, all’interno di strutture a volte complesse ma piene di groove.

The Ostinàti are an Ibleo quintet born from the collaboration between musicians from different musical backgrounds, but which flow together towards jazz music. They were born as performers of tribute tracks dedicated to the masters of American jazz of the funk / rock fusion period such as Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Marcus Miller, Mike Stern, Wayne Shorter and others.

With the desire and the obstinacy to take a step forward, in 2019, the band embarked on a change of course towards original music, with compositions by saxophonist Sergio Battaglia, whose arrangements were curated together with the rest of the band.

The songs are tributes to Sicily, which describe in music the picturesque landscapes of this territory.

The music of the Ostinati becomes a pretext to share different improvisational strategies, which move freely, within structures that are sometimes complex but full of grooves.
