dell’americana MRR. Un settimo lavoro di prog-rock polifonico e contemporaneo
MMXX: il ritorno degli Ifsounds!
«MMXX è un disco molto ambizioso, un passo in avanti nella nostra storia artistica. Abbiamo fatto convivere la nostra musica con quella corale, una musica antica ma emozionante e modernissima nello spirito. La composizione della suite, in particolare, ha richiesto un notevole studio e successivamente un particolare sforzo per incastrare gli arrangiamenti propri del rock con le armonie di un coro polifonico».
Sono orgogliosi gli Ifsounds per l’uscita di MMXX, il loro settimo album. Il nuovo tassello di una lunga storia, cominciata nel 1993 con la fondazione e con il primo disco nel 2006, e oggi giunta a un’opera, come sottolinea la band abruzzese, ambiziosa e impegnativa. La storica etichetta americana Melodic Revolution Records, guidata da Nick Katona, ha confermato il sostegno agli Ifsounds, che a cinque anni di distanza dall’apprezzato An Gorta Mór tornano con un lavoro nuovamente concettuale, incentrato sui drammi della contemporaneità. A partire da ciò che resta della pandemia.
Il lockdown ha ispirato gli Ifsounds nella ricerca di un veicolo che evocasse relazionalità e contatto con il prossimo. Un contatto perso per motivi sanitari e ricostruito in musica anche attraverso la coralità: «La pandemia ha sconvolto le nostre vite, mettendo in discussione tutti gli aspetti delle nostre esistenze, anche i più banali. Oggi sembra tutto passato e in parte sto notando una certa tendenza
a rimuovere dalla mente le sensazioni vissute durante quei due anni da incubo, ma credo che quello sia stato il periodo globalmente più assurdo, alienante e distopico attraversato dalla nostra generazione. Per questo motivo abbiamo deciso di mettere in musica e parole le sensazioni e le paure di quei giorni, che hanno condizionato in maniera così drammatica le nostre azioni quotidiane e che hanno cambiato irreversibilmente il nostro mondo e noi stessi. E lo abbiamo fatto attraverso la musica corale, il genere che, per definizione, richiede il contatto più stretto tra le persone che avevamo ormai perso».
Sin dai tempi del primo disco, passando attraverso album che di volta in volta hanno mostrato l’evoluzione della band guidata da Dario Lastella, gli Ifsounds hanno provato a smarcarsi dai canoni classici del rock progressivo per interpretarlo in una chiave diversa, considerandolo anzi un “modo di fare le
cose”. E ancora una volta, il rock progressivo italiano gode di ampio credito all’estero: «Progressiva per noi è l’attitudine alla musica e alla ricerca, che si declina nella fusione di vari generi per colorare le sensazioni che vogliamo trasmettere: rock progressivo non è un genere, ma un modo di suonare, spaziando tra rock, jazz, classica, elettronica, con un occhio alla grande musica del passatoda preservare ed evolvere in nuovi linguaggi. Gli italiani suonano bene e lo sanno in tutto il mondo tranne che in Italia!

MMXX: the return of Ifosounds!

«MMXX is a very ambitious album, a step forward in our history artistic. 
We made our music coexist with choral music, one music ancient but exciting and very modern in spirit.
The composition of the suite, in particular, required considerable study and subsequent particular effort to fit the rock arrangements with the harmonies of a polyphonic choir”. Ifsounds are proud of the release of MMXX, their seventh album. The newpiece of a long history, which began in 1993 with the foundation and with the first album in 2006, and today it has reached a work, as underlined by the band from Abruzzo, ambitious and demanding. The historic American label Melodic Revolution Records, led by Nick Katona, has confirmed its support for Ifsounds, who, five years after the popular An Gorta Mór, return with a job again conceptual, focused on contemporary dramas. Starting from what remains of the pandemic. Lockdown inspired Ifsounds to search for an evocative vehicle relationality and contact with others. A contact lost for health reasons e reconstructed in music also through chorality: «The pandemic has upset the our lives, questioning all aspects of our existences, too the most banal. Today it all seems to be in the past and I’m partly noticing a certain trend to remove from the mind the sensations experienced during those two nightmare years, but I think that was the most absurd, alienating and overall period dystopian experienced by our generation. For this reason we have decided to put the sensations and fears of those days into music and words, which have influenced our daily actions in such a dramatic way that have irreversibly changed our world and ourselves. And we have it done through choral music, the genre that, by definition, requires the closer contact between the people we had already lost.” Since the time of the first album, going through albums from time to time they showed the evolution of the band led by Dario Lastella, Ifsounds they tried to distance themselves from the classic canons of progressive rock for interpret it in a different key, actually considering it a “way of doing things things”. And once again, Italian progressive rock enjoys wide credit abroad: «For us, the attitude towards music and research is progressive, which is declines in the fusion of various genres to color the sensations we want convey: progressive rock is not a genre, but a way of playing, ranging between rock, jazz, classical, electronic, with an eye to great music of the past to be preserved and evolved into new languages. 
Italians play well and they know it all over the world except in Italy!
