“Mystery Babylon” nasce da una collaborazione tra ex membri della storica band di Tucson BLACK SUN ENSEMBLE con l’intento di creare un progetto di film e colonna sonora che potesse illustrare un viaggio audiovisivo attraverso la storia dell’occulto a Manhattan, New York. 

Originariamente concepito e filmato dall’ex batterista e montatore dei Black Sun Ensemble Bryan Kohl (alias Otto Terrorist), Mystery Babylon esplora visivamente la storia, l’architettura e le immagini di vari movimenti occulti che hanno contribuito a plasmare Manhattan, la casa di Kohl da oltre 20 anni, sia nel passato che nel presente. 
Kohl ha chiesto all’ex compagno di band Eric Johnson di contribuire a creare una colonna sonora originale per accentuare le immagini filmate. 
Il risultato è un’esplorazione audiovisiva di un’ora dell’iconografia, i personaggi e i luoghi che hanno contribuito a costruire gran parte di quella che oggi conosciamo come New York City. 
Il film può essere visualizzato solo attraverso un URL trovato nelle note di copertina della versione in CD della colonna sonora. 
La colonna sonora originale è stata creata da Eric Johnson per celebrare la teatralità, la grandiosità e la bellezza enigmatica dei movimenti occulti del diciannovesimo e ventesimo secolo, piuttosto che creare una colonna sonora di suoni spettrali e tropi da film horror. 
Scegliendo casualmente i titoli delle canzoni dal mazzo dei tarocchi “The Book of Thoth” di Aleister Crowley, la raccolta mappa un paesaggio musicale oscuro e ornato che si appoggia alle colonne sonore del rock progressivo elettronico di band come Goblin e Bobby Beausoleil. 
La sequenza dei brani presenta anche diverse semplici figure dipianoforte/sassofono che riflettono il più grandioso dei movimenti Art Déco dello stile e dell’architettura di New York.
Dal semplice tema per pianoforte di “The Hierophant”, al tracollo dark rock di “The Four of Wands or Completion”, su un nuovo arrangiamento dell’inno ortodosso russo, “In The Dark Night”, la colonna sonora riflette la bellezza enigmatica del soggetto con dettagli unici. 
Il polistrumentista e cantautore Eric Johnson risiede da molto tempo a Tucson, in Arizona, e registra sotto il nome di Action Figures quando pubblica lavori da solista. 
Johnson, insieme a Kohl, erano membri delle leggende del rock psichedelico del deserto Black Sun Ensemble, così come un membro dei Sun Zoom Spark di Tucson, Bread and Circus, Infinite Beauties e altri progetti.

Former Black Sun Ensemble members partner to create a film and soundtrack project illustrating an audio-visual journey through the history of the occult in Manhattan, New York.

Originally conceived and filmed by ex Black Sun Ensemble drummer and film editor Bryan Kohl (aka Otto Terrorist), Mystery Babylon visually explores the history, the architecture and the imagery of various occult movements that have helped to shape Manhattan, 
Kohl’s home for over 20 years, both in the past and present.  Kohl  asked former bandmate Eric Johnson to help create an original soundtrack to accentuate the filmed images.  The result is an hour-long, audio-visual exploration of the iconography, the practitioners and the places that helped to build much of what we now know as New York City.

The original soundtrack was created by Eric Johnson to celebrate the theatricality, the grandeur and the enigmatic beauty of the occult movements of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, rather than create a soundtrack of spooky sounds and horror movie tropes.   
Randomly choosing the song titles fromAleister Crowley’s”The Book of Thoth”Tarot deck, the collection maps a dark and ornate musical 
landscape that leans into the electronic progressive rock soundtracks of band like Goblin and Bobby Beausoleil.  
The collection also features several simple piano/saxophone figures that reflect the granduer of the Art Deco movements of New York style and architecture.  From the simple piano theme of “The Hierophant,” to the dark rock meltdown of 
“The Four of Wands or Completion,”  to a new arrangement of the Russian Orthodox hymn, “In The Dark Night,”  the soundtrack reflects the enigmatic 
beauty of the subject in unique detail.

Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Eric Johnson is a long-time resident of Tucson Arizona and records under the name, Action Figures, when publishing solo work.  
Johnson, along with Kohl were members of desert psych-rock legends Black Sun Ensemble, as well as a member of Tucson’s Sun Zoom Spark, Bread and Circus, Infinite Beauties and others.
